Pasa Thai
Since my last trip to that enchanting land, the Kingdom of Thailand, I have started learning to speak Thai. Its not that hard for me really. As my own language is fairly tonal in execution. For now I am struggling trough the 30 hours of the Pimsleurs Thai.
The course is aiming at learning you how to speak the language, pronounce the words correctly and build up your vocabulary., and I find it fairly easy going. But I do not expect to be able to carry a conversation with an average Thai person. But the course is fairly fun, and you do not have to deal with endless, gibberish in the form of incomprehensible grammar rules.
I managed to learn a foreign language before, by completely ignoring to learn how to grammatically analyze a sentence. I am writing in that foreign language right now, and I think I am doing fairly well. However I flunked French in high school. Well my heart was not in it, and the teacher gave to many grammar tests…
When I am back in Thailand, I plan to pick up some books, and start learning to write and read the language. But for now, its the Pimsleur course. There are 30 modules, and each last about 30 minutes. I go trough each module 3-5 times to make it stick, and try to spend time going trough at least one module every day, and moving on once I have mastered that one.
