We Have Been Home For a Week

January 29, 2008 |

We got everything sorted in Bangkok. And Nan has received her new pass port already. Now we are just waiting for the legalized translation of the marriage certificate to arrive, so that we can ship it off to Norway to be registered there.

It’s been a busy week since we came home to. My new RC Model Airplane is finished. So I have spent the afternoons trying to fly it. The local guy who built it for me is giving me some training. But this plane is definitely not a beginners model. So next time we go to Bangkok to pick up my new pass port at the embassy it’s yet again to visit a hobby shop to find a plane that I can learn on, before the current one becomes a pile of tinder wood.

We actually spent one afternoon, and the next morning trying to locate one during our visit in the big city. RC Model Plane flying is a huge hobby in Thailand. With flying clubs just about everywhere. Even here in Putthaisong. So many of the Hobby shops are also on the Internet. So I thought it would be easy to find one. Not so. For some reason these shops do not publish their location on their website.

So we only had some vague locations. Like, near Panthip plaza, or close to MBK. Well, we ended up taking a 1 hour taxi drive almost out to the airport to find one. Quite tiring to wander aimlessly about trying to locate a specific shop in that City. And thats is my main gripe with big cities. They are so uncentralized. Give me a small town any day, where everything you need is located in a small area. And everyone you see can be asked for directions to anything you want.

Nan was the trooper as usual. Tagging along, and always in good spirits. But I knew better than to suggest we take a night out once we were back at the hotel for the last night.

The bus trip up here was quite uneventful. And since then, yup my new found passion in flying airplane models have sort of consumed me. Thats typically my approach to everything that interest me. In the past it has been shooting guns, hunting, photography, fishing, blogging and now flying little airplanes made out of foam and balsa.

Nan is taking it all pretty well. I think she secretly thinks it’s good to have me out of her hair a few hours a day. But she is without mercy in ribbing me for wanting to play with toys. Well, well, I got to have something to do. And it is good to get out of the house and do something different.

That’s it

    Hi Nan and Rune.
This model ‘plane thing sounds like something I could easily get into. I was really enjoying my new tiny “Fairy” helicopter last time in Wichian until it made a forced landing into a large fish pond and died.

Our imminent new baby means all my plans to see more of Thailand and S.E.Asia are on indefinate hold. I’m sure babies are very nice and I shall love him/her dearly. However until he/she is old enough to play with all the toys I wanted as a kid, and now have an excuse to buy as an adult, I shall have to find things to keep me away from the hammock and the Chang!

    All the best
    Mick
