In Bangkok
January 21, 2008 |
We bussed down to Bangkok yesterday. And today we have already finished part one of our 3 in 1 mission. We went to the embassy early. And got first in line. And the proceedings for getting me a new pass port was very straight forward. Just fill in the form, hand over 2 pass port pictures, and come back in 2 or 3 weeks.
I also lucked out in that they waved the 2800 baht fee because the ID part of my pass port contained a production error. So that was nice.
The rest of the day was spent at Pantip Plaza where I got myself a Wi-fi adaptor for my desktop computer, and some other cables I need. Nan got a new charger for her mobile phone, and then she when bananas in nearby clothing mall. Well, she spent all of 140 baht, but came out of there all smiles with two new tops. That my friends….is a Nan shopping frenzy.
Also I should take a picture of her luggage. She has crammed everything she needs for the 3 day trip into a small daypack. I hereby challenge you to find any other woman on the planet who is even remotely capable of that feat!
Tomorrow we will go over to Lak Si and have our marriage certificate translated and the translation certified, before we send it to Norway to be registered with the Norwegian Peoples Registrar. When that is done, our marriage will be lefally recognized in both countries. Nan can also get a new pass port at the same place. She took my family name when we married, so she needs a new pass port.
Tonight, well, we’ll stay in the room and watch TV. We both can not stand being in this city. And well, the hotel has broadband internet included in the room.
That’s it!

Ae and Ickyu will be in Bangkok on tomorrow, arriving at midnight tonight. Too bad you guys are not staying longer. May could meet up.
A tip for later: Never blog about your whereabouts until AFTER you have been on a trip… Doing so only invites guests that you haven’t ever dreamed of inviting. That is true in Norway - and i guess in Thailand, too.
Welcome to the Capital! Try to enjoy your time in Bkk as much as possible! Cheers.
Damn man, I was there on the 19th. Just got back to my Lala land. First day back at the grind…UGH. The good news is I took a job in Pattaya, I will officially be there in June, got an apartment thrown in as part of my salery also. Im leaving this dump in April, heading back to the states to take care of some loose ends before my great adventure. Hope to hook up with you sometime when Im there.
Now about the suitcase issue……Yea Id say she’s a winner, I would also have to give her 3 thumbs up on the shopping frenzy, definetly a keeper!!!
Okay we are back in the sticks again. Will try and get in a blog post about it later.
Onkel Dag, no worries. Mother in law had the house covered. And I have never said what village we are in. Not that it matters, the few people with an internet connection who at the same time can read English are not that many here.
Dago, we stayed in the same hotel as when we met up last time…darn…but congrats on the new job. Will definatly see you sooner or later. Anyway, if I know you right, you’ll soon cruise around on a Harley…how about a break in trip to Isaan? Heck, I’ll even help you put all the parts back on that fell off during the trip!
Doug…does that mean you will be in the Kingdom also?
I will not be in Thailand this time around. Ae’s grandfather is very ill and she was afraid that she may not get to see him again before he passes. I get home on 31 January and she will be home on 4 February.
Hey Rune that was my plan, to ride up your way but no worries no parts will fall off, LOL
Man thats where I was also!!!! If you stay there again give them my real name, XXX, and tell them your my friend, ask for Henri. They will give you a better rate, I am a member.
I’ve been in Bangkok for so long now that I’ve gotten accustomed to the heat and traffic and .. just everything. I think I need to get out of town more. Do you just don’t like being in cities in general, or just Bangkok?
Well, isn’t it just like him to spoil my plan to get both your extra toilet and your stereo with custom grounding system.
thanks a lot Onkel Dag,
p.s. revenge will be mine!
Doug, I hope everything will turn out to be allright with Ae’s grandfather.
Dago, you will be riding a Harley…stuff will fall off. Anyway, looks like that hotel will be hour place. We are going back in a week or two to pick up my new pass port, and that hotel is conveniently close to the Norwegian Embassy. Will sure try and get a better rate.
Andrew, I simply donæt like big cities. They are all hopeless to find anything you want in.
And if you want something you cant find in any mall or market, you are left to travel around for ages, stuck in traffic. I even hated staying in the little capitol of my own country, Oslo, with it’s half a million people. And Bangkok…itæs like the arch big city. Nope, give me a small town, where everything is conveniently located in a small area. And these days you can order anything off the internet.
Geoff, you would have to fight your way past Mae, I pitty anyone that tries to mess with my mom in law…he he
Rune, e mail me a couple of daze in advance with your real name and some dates and I will e mail Henri to give him a heads up.
