Stars in the Sky
December 21, 2007 |
I just popped outside and the moonlight is so bright tonight I did not need to put on the light in the yard. So I stood there for a bit an looked at the stars. And I found a couple of star signs I recognize from home, like Orion for example. That was quite comforting.
Else we are just trundling along, preparing for Yule. We wrapped presents today, and put them under the tree. Later when I came back inside, I found two boys shaking presents and itching to open them. So they are in other words, just like other boys the world over, waiting for the main event.
I also got an email from blog reader Thailand Tony, inviting us to come along for the annual Christmas Party at the Farang Connection in Surin. He had already booked a table. And after petitioning Nan, I was given the all clear. We could go. So a short phone call later, things where arranged with Tony, who also made hotel arrangements, and they will be picking us up here, and bring us back the next day, as we are on their way to Surin. Way to go Tony!
Finding a babysitter for the boys will be no problem. And since I am Norwegian, the big family event with dinner and opening of presents will take place on the 24th as the custom is in the Land of Fjords.
Else I have just been chatting in MSN with friends the world over. Even video chatting with Doug, another regular reader over in the USA, works. But it has a tendency to cut out every 5 minutes or so.
I hope to get Nan convinced to do some chatting on the internet with the Thai wives of some of the guys I have come to know over the net over the past year. Basically so that she is familiar with it, when sooner or later I have to go back to work again. It will make communication with her and the people here at home so much easier…and cheaper. But so far she has not shown much interest towards the computer and the internet.
But we will see. She has hinted that she’d like to try alone, without me hovering about to help. She is a bit shy about making mistakes and things like that. So I may get an extra computer. A cheap laptop would do the job. And I can bring that one with me when I go overseas for work. And she can use the desktop. And since we have one good computer, it does not need to be an all singing and dancing gizmo. Just something to go online with…
Okay, all just thoughts in my head at the moment.
That’s it!

Really enjoyed our coversations over the past few days. Just give Nan a little time and she will become internet fanatics just like us. May your holidays be safe and happy !!
I found that Tae really became interested in the computer after I downloaded a few games that she liked to play on the machines whenever we were up Tesco Lotus or Big C, then she wanted to know if she could read Thai things on the net when we were away so I changed the home page to http://www.sanook.com, which she logs into every day now. Finally I have bought a computer here this trip to take back to Bahrain with us, complete with Thai keyboard and Thai MS Office, so we’ll see if that makes it a bit easier for her and the boys. The idea also being that I can get them on the web cam whenever I’m travelling on business to.
Just popped over to wish you and yours a very merry Christmas.
