Bloody Bitch!
December 13, 2007 |
Mao the Mutt had his first serious meeting with life as it is today. We had just fed him, and left him alone to enjoy his food. When we heard him scream in terror and pain from the yard. I ran outside, to find a large bitch standing over him. She had him cornered and was snarling at the little mutt.
She had probably come to steal his food. And being a brave little fellow, and somewhat naive he probably defended it. Because there was about 3 seconds of annoyed barking and growling from the little one before he screamed.
Anyway, I grabbed a hammer from the bench next to the door, and chased the bitch away. Had I known the injuries to Mao then, I would have sunk that hammer into the bastards skull.
As I turned, to look at him, he was still whimpering. And the reason was obvious. He had taken a bite to the face. With a deep gash between the eyes, and more seriously, his lower left eye lid was torn, and he was bleeding from both wounds.
Nan came out, and with some care and attention we manged to calm the shivering puppy down, so we could have a closer look. His eye was luckily not damaged. But he had some blood and hair on his eye.
So it was to set to work with the first aid kit. We cleaned his wounds with sterile water, and then took him to the local dude that fixes animals. He said it was no big deal, but to keep it clean. Well, what to expect from the local witch doctor.
Anyway at home we managed to clean his wounds again. And he is actually back to his normal, playful self again. We did give him some antibiotics in his food to help stave off any infection. And we’ll keep an eye on him so he don’t do something to aggravate the injuries.
Well well, never said that life is easy for an Isaan Doggy. Anyway, at the slightest sign of infection, we’ll take him to the nearest real vet. But that is a long way off. So we hope it wont be necessary. And Nan is well versed in the art of being a nurse, with two boys of her own, the youngest sibling, with 3 brothers, and growing up with animals.
Ok…That’s it!
P.S The bitch came back tonight, and was spotted by Nan who gave her a good wack over the butt with a bamboo stick… Som nam na!

Poor wee thing!! Give him a cuddle from me
I have two cat’s - both from an animal rescue charity (One was only five weeks old when we got him) and I know how protective I am of them so can only imagine how distressing that must have been for you!!

Thanks Carol,
Well, so far he seem to be doing fine. Eating normaly and there is so far no sign of infection. He plays and farts abaout and gets himself in trouble as usual.
We did give him a 1/4 of a cinfloxine tablet (antibiotics) in his food yesterday though.
Well, he will carry the scars. But he IS a village dog, and a male one too, so I expect him to have to fight for his fiefdom now and then…
Well, thats the nature of things.
Hey Rune. I hope he is on the mend quickly for both of you. When I visit the village and the 30 stray dogs are wandering around looking for something to eatI always have a nice long thick peice of bamboo ready.
It’s is cruel as I don’t like to ever hit animals but these dogs are borderline wild and you don’t know what they will do.
I am scared for the little 3-5 year old kids wandering about the place.
