Pizza for Lunch
December 10, 2007 |
I just walked into the kitchen, investigating the smell of food coming from there. And found Nan in the process of making a pizza for lunch. How can I not love that woman?
The kids are enjoying a day off from school. And seem to be spending it watching episode after episode of Tom and Jerry. Well, it’s their day off to spend as they please. And no problem, Heart will no doubt come home for supper tonight covered in mud, as usual. Normal procedure evening time is to hose him down before he is let into the house.
It is actually quite easy to spot when he has been inside when we are not around. Just follow his muddy foot prints from the fridge, where he grabbed a snack, then into the living room, and the muddy buttock prints on the floor in front of the TV, along with the leftovers of whatever snack he grabbed. Then the tracks usually leads outside, to disappear either in the direction of granny’s house, or the river for new adventures. A normal, healthy seven year old in other words.
His older brother is more laid back. Preferring the comfort of the sofa and the TV, a computer game or reading a book. But he is not foreign to come home all scrubbed up, with holes in his shorts, and bloody knees. But sometimes we do have to switch off the TV and throw him out to go do something healthy, like climb a tree and fall off it.
Having two kids and not being able to communicate much is sort of strange. But it does work after a fashion. They are quite polite kids, and under normal circumstances listen to their mum. And me, well, they probably get away with things they should not get away with, but luckily they have not tested me very much. And things do work out with some sign language, a few Thai words and a bit of pantomime, they usually get what the farang is on to. And then actually behave as ordered, without much complaint.
Mao the Mutt is still going strong. His self confidence boosted when he chased a away a cat twice his size yesterday evening. I was outside, in the process of dumping his food in is food container, when a huge cat brushed past me. Mao was under his stack of planks under the rice house. But poked out his head to see what I was doing, when he spotted the cat.
It was instant growling, accompanied by some not so impressive barks. And the cat stopped in it’s tracks. I found it opportune to step in at that moment, not wanting the little puppy ripped to pieces by the cat. So I threw some water from the dogs drinking bowl at it, and it shot away. Mao following it to the fence barking his head off. After which he strutted around the yard, peed and then leisurely strolled to his food bowl and had his supper.
Yup, life in Isaan is good!
Well, That’s it.
