Wrath of the Furies

October 16, 2007 |

The building of the kitchen is proceeding fine. But like I experienced with the new hong nam, they are building a little bit backwards here.

The started with digging the foundations for the support columns, and poured concrete and erected these. Then put the roof up. Back home I think they build the walls first. On the other hand, if they did that here, we would have a swimming pool instead of a kitchen at first sign of rain.

And when it rains here, it really rains. But it seems like we are just managing to avoid flooding. The river is huge though. And further downstream there is flooding in Korat, and at least one school is closed while soldiers sandbag it and pump out the water.

Yesterday I did go fishing. We got one tiny little catfish before my phone announced it was lunch time. So home for some barbecued chicken, fish soup and rice.

I have somewhat failed to mention it, but we where without running water for 5-6 days. It turned out that the mains water pipe to the village was broken. And the dude that usually fixes it was not inclined to do so, since the dude that sits on the village cash box was away for a few days. No money, no fix.

Well, it took that long for the piles of unwashed clothes to get high enough, and the storage tanks in various hong nams to be empty. And when Thai ladies cant take their 3 daily showers, and bully their husbands to to the same, they get mightily cranky.

So after facing the assembled wrath of the village females, led by my dear, lovely and sweet Nan, running water was again restored to the village yesterday afternoon. Thus ensuring the peace and tranquility of the village, and that the local plumber will be able to keep his reproductive organs.

Okay, I have to go out there and have a look. Nan is already yak-yak’ing at the construction fellas. So I have to go out there, smile and make sure they don’t try to escape!

Hey Rune sounds like you are having plenty of fun there. At least you cannot get bored with all this happening.

Don’t worry here in the city the water will go without warning and return whenever and I always keep the well in my bathroom full just in case.

I just got back froma small trip and the Mekong is the highest have ever seen it but was told that it had been a lot higher before.

Hope the rain stops soon we have to harvest the rice in a few weeks.
