Kitchen and Nan the Terrible

October 14, 2007 |

Today we started construction of the new kitchen. We are also going to put concrete on the little yard we have, as every time it rains it becomes a muddy quagmire. And to top it off we are roofing over the whole yard so that we can actually use it. When the sun is shining it’s unbearable out in the sun.

So now we’ll have a reasonably cool place outside to eat and for other activities. We are putting the kitchen window facing this side, and plan to have a table and some benches directly by the window for easy serving. We’ll put the deck chair we received from Geoff and Amy as a housewarming gift out there too, for me to relax in. There will also be a couple of hammocks. Yup, it will be Lazy Plaza out there!

I promise pictures when it’s all finished.

Meanwhile our place is again a construction zone, But that should only last a couple of weeks. And when all of that is finished it’s to make a decent fence around the place to keep the neighbours chickens out. The little rats with feathers is dropping their shit everywhere. And you can’t really eat them either, as the meat is like shoe leather.  But for now I am using the kids sling shot at them. Nan is more brutal. A quick wring of the neck and we have chicken soup for lunch.

What the owners have to say about that? Well, Nan could not care less it seems. “Som nam naa” - serves you right, she mutters during her killing spree.  My lady can be quite scary sometimes I tell you!

Then it’s the weather. And I must say it makes me a tad worried. On the local TV Channel 7 News yesterday they warned about flooding in Buriram and Surin. The village sits by river Nam Moon, and the water level in the river is allready at level with the banks, and water is starting to flood into the rice fields. Last night we had really heavy rain, so now I am off to the river to have a look. If the rain does not stop soon, we may have to get hold of sand bags. We are only a meter above the rice here.

Nan is not so worried yet, as she says she can’t remember that the village have ever been flooded. Well, well, for all I know what I see is perfectly normal here. But perhaps waiting until my neighbours start to worry is not so prudent…

Okay, just a short one today.

That’s it!

Hey I just came up with another good reason to have a wall around the property, keep the flood waters out!!!!…lol…Only need sandbags in front of the gates then which will stop them being washed away…lol

Well, the water level is falling, so no worries about that for now..

Anyway, it seems we’ll have a low wall after all. I saw your point when the waters started rise.
