Party Coming Up!

Not much to report so far today. The village is eerily quiet, and so is the house as Nan took the motosai to the other end of the village to spend the day helping her mom and the other ladies in the family cook food and make sweets for tomorrows village party.
That means that tomorrow it’s to get up with birds to go to the temple and make merritt at 06:30 in the morning I am informed.
There is also going to be fireworks. The kids and the grown up kids in the village as well, has been warming up to it by testing their firecrackers every day for weeks now. Nan’s boys have been in trouble with mom on more than one occasion for playing with firecrackers. And how many have been sternly confiscated and destroyed by her I don’t now. The boys are both having their daily allowance of 5 baht each revoked for weeks.
And if as much as a little popper is set off by one of the boys, they will spend the big party locked up in the house with no TV or computer games. Needless to say these measures have led to a lot of sorrow and gnashing of teeth, but I guess it’s better than to have their fingers or eyes blown off by a home made firecracker with a 1 second fuse.

Yes, the fire crackers can be very interesting here in Isaan and some of the fuses well they are another story.
It’s good to see Nan is onto the dangers of these crackers, I have seen kids who would lucky to be 4-5 years old playing with them. Very scary.
