A Sit Down Bliss

October 8, 2007 |

dsc01708-1.JPGWhen I woke up this morning, instead of wrapping a towel around my mid section  and shuffle outside to the hong nam, I simply rolled out of bed, opened the door next to it and I was in our bath room. I then sat down on a proper porcelain throne and well, did what you do while seated on one of those.

Then it was a shower. A real shower. Not a bucket in sight. Well, we don’t have hot water yet. But the pure shock of pouring a bucket full of cold water over my head have come to an end.

dsc01706.JPGIt’s not quite complete. We need an electrician to hook up the electricity in there, so we’ll have light, and juice for the washing machine. But we can use the shower and the toilet and it all works fine.

So I am happy as a squirrel in a barrel of nuts.

Talking about nuts. My wife gifted me with a pair of shorts that had pirate skulls decorated with flowers all over them this morning. And had a good old laugh as I was parading around the living room for her wearing them.

All in all we had a good start of the day. Which seems to be another lazy day, now that the new hong nam is ready to use.  That is until we start the next project which is adding another 10 square meters to the house for a kitchen.

Who said life in Isaan would be boring?

The pictures show Nan putting the final touch on the tiled floor by applying grouting between the tiles, and me painting the outside wall.

That’s it!

No no, you got it a bit loopsided.

Well we met in february, and married in june. Yup it’s completely ting tong.

But I have not bought a centimeter of land in her name, nor in my own for that matter. What we have done is to fix up the house that she already owned on land that was already hers, and we did it on the cheap. So far I have sunk 100000 baht into it. And there will be about 25000 more for a kitchen.

Later in about 2-3 years we may build something, and that won’t be a palace either.

Finally yes we are both happy together… you read to many stickman submissions methinks :-)

    Hey there again Rune.

The bathroom is looking good and the tiles look nice. What colour is the roof?

I hate those Thai squatters, they are especially bad if you have the runs. I first experienced them travelling through Indonesia on surfing trips so they weren’t new to me.

How many coats of paint did you get on the wall before you got into the beer Chang?

Keep up the good work mate.

As for stickmans site. The same thing repeated again and again. I haven’t looked at his site for god how long now.

It’s great to see you are really happy and enjoying life in Isaan.

That was only a 3 beer wall. One between each coat and one to celebrate it’s completion and to pat myself on the shoulder for being a good boy. That illusion was soon removed as Nan pointed to the inside walls that where ready for painting.

So another 3 coats on those, this time without the beer, as the remaining cans where confiscated, and only released after she was sure i had done a proper job!

The ceiling is white. She bought this hanging roof thing that looks awful. But I have not dared mentioning that to her.

yes, very wise my friend. they can take things to heart these little Thai girls.

Nan does sound like a good foreman and even keps you on your toes.

Remind me not to NEVER take on a paid job for her. You should see her boss around the work crew that built this for us. Her mouth was going Yak-yak constantly for 10 days in a row. I would have had a nervous brakedown and strangled her on day two!

my goodness Chris, he has already been stung, why the heck do you think he is acting so impulsively….

everyone should be so lucky as to be stung by the likes of a wonderful woman like Nan!

Chris, this whole Thai relationship thing is really pretty simple, If your a family man, it will work, if your not and like to party, it wont. But hey aint that the way it is all over?
    I agree with you Geoff.
