I’m Blogging in the Rain

October 4, 2007 |

The heavens opened up yesterday and I earned 100 baht. It had been overcast with a nice farang temperature all day. And I relayed to Nan that I think tonight we will have rain. Nan scoffed and said now way was it going to rain today. At least no “big rain”, which in her book is the only type that counts.

So we made a bet out of it. 100 baht to the one that was right. 5 minutes later she handed me the baht, and it has been pouring down ever since.

Frankly I am starting to worry a bit. The road outside the house is starting to fill with water now. And the floors are only 20 cm if that above the road surface. And a small river is starting to form from the road and running across our yard to the rice paddy in the back of the house.

But Nan does not seem too worried yet, and she says she can’t recall the village ever being flooded. So for now I’ll settle for keeping an eye on things, but I think I’ll ask her where we can get sand bags just in case.

The kids are enjoying the day inside to day it seems. Heart is having a cozy time under a blanket with his crayons, and Heurn is just waiting for me to get off the computer so he can blow away some Nazi’s in “Call of Duty II”. I think I’ll let him do just that, while I go out and play in the rain :-)
