Electrified She Is

September 28, 2007 |

Construction of the new hong nam started again this morning. But first sorry that there are no pictures, but I just don’t have the patience to upload anything using the GPRS connection at the moment.

They have completed one wall and the other is fast reaching completion too. But that’s the tricky one, with all the water pipes.

Else Geoff and Amy are en-route here tomorrow, and we are expecting them shortly after noon sometime. Nan is joking (or is she?) that if we get to drunk on the Beer Chang, we can both sleep in the old hong nam. That way she and Amy can watch their TV soap in piece and quiet without undue snoring from drunk farangs.

Mom in law returned from a short trip to Cambodia this morning, and presented me with a video CD containing Cambodian music. It also had very scantily clad Cambodian Coyote dancers. But fearing instant execution, and having my private parts fed to the village ducks, I have not dared anything but a few quick peeks as I pass the TV.  But the music is going full tilt as I write this.

Back to the hong nam. Yesterday we ventured to Putthaisong to purchase bits and pieces for it, like a shower head and other things like that.

We also meant to buy the electric cables for the light fixture, and and the wall sockets for the washing machine that we intend to keep in there. But they did not have cables with grounding wires. So for me it was no-go.

- Why you not buy?

-Because we need cables with a grounding wire. Look these have two wires. We need with three

-But Thai only have two

-Teerak, it could well be true that in Thai, you don’t use grounding in a wet room. That would not surprise me at all. But in the rest of the known universe we do, so we are not buying these.

-No need. Can do, no problem!

-Teerak, I’ll remember that when you are stuck between the washing machine and the wash basin, with 220 volt racing through your small body.

Luckily we were then right across the street from a new place that lo and behold, sells washing machines. And the bright young man inside could indeed confirm my story that grounding in the bathroom was indeed necessary if we where to put the machine in there. He also could order the right stuff for me. So that should arrive in a few days. We’ll see.

That’s it!

Sorry about not understanding about slow uploads for pics. I will not complain about not getting pics and will enjoy vicariously living in Isaan thru your words. What can I say? Just a crazy American. I can’t wait to get back to Thailand. I hope to travel in the NE. I always enjoy reading about your excellent adventures.
