In the Land of Smiles at Last
September 19, 2007 |
So I finally arrived in the Land of Smiles at last. We landed in Bangkok last Thursday and with virtually no cue at immigration, and luggage arriving the same time we got there, and on top of that, the dude from the car rental company right there waiting for us, we were on the road within 30 minutes after arrival.
The plan was to drive up to Korat, do some shopping and stay the night, before doing the final leg up to the village. But we simply decided that after shopping, we would press on. So around midnight we locked ourselves into the hut. We where home…
The weekend we spent relaxing. That is until Sunday, when Nan threw the best birthday party I have ever had. There was plenty of food (a pig was sacrificed yet again), beer and 40 degree (lao kao), and the karaoke was going hot. Then they all tied strings around my wrists again, before they went home…
Monday was recovery day. Then today we drove down to the big mango, and checked in at the Tai-Pan Hotel, and met DAGO and his girlfriend in the lobby. We had a few beers, then taxied off for a seafood at a nearby place.
I had pictured the dude as a clean cut, all American feller. Well he is all American…biker, complete with a beard and tattoos everywhere. We had a nice night swapping war stories, over a few vodkas, Jim Beams and beers, while our ladies did their thing…mostly giggling a lot, while casting sideways glances at their farang.
We ended the night early after a few drinks at an English pub, as Dago and Co. is flying off to Chiang Mai tomorrow, and me and Nan have a long day in the grips of bureaucracy ahead of us.
Anyway, Dago, you’re always welcome in our home. So drop by sometime. It was a pleasure meeting you
Thats IT!
