Say Cheese
September 6, 2007 |
There are a few things you really start to miss when you spend an extended time out of your country. I guess food stuff would be a good number one for most expats.
At least for me. One of the most difficult things for a Norwegian abroad is to make do without our brown goat cheese. The stuff basically looks like a cube of brown modelling clay, and have about the same texture.
To give you a clue to how important this cheese is for us: Well, Norway’s greatest invention is a cheese knife to cut this precious delicacy into thin slices, to conveniently place it on the bread.
This bread can’t be just any kind of bread. It has to be real brown bread. The browner the better, and it has to be still warm out of the oven.
This then can be served with either tea or cocoa. I remember coming in after a day of playing in the snow, and my mom would make me some goat cheese sandwiches and cocoa. Wonderful stuff.
Yesterday I got hold of 2kg’s of it. A colleague when home to Norway, and brought some for me. And I plan to let Nan have a small taste of it tonight. A small one mind you, because I am not sharing this one, it’s miiiine! *evil laugh*
