A Speaker to Korat

August 23, 2007 |

After a couple of days in the hut, it was time to get that broken speaker replaced. So we loaded into the car and headed back to Korat.

The two hour drive down there was an ok drive, with Tai Oratai singing at full blast on the stereo, and Nan asleep in the passenger seat. We parked at Tesco Lotus and headed straight for the electronics department. Where of course the young dude who had sold us the erroneous speaker was out for lunch.

So we grabbed a trolley and proceeded to fill it with Beer Chang, and a lot of stuff for the kitchen we had realised we needed. Mostly plastic containers, a set of stick-free casseroles, some spoons and other bits and pieces to help us cook and preserve our food.

We then ventured back to the electronics department, where the salesperson was now present. He listened to Nan who explained the problem, while wearing her best smile. The dude then hooked up the speaker, and to my relief it was still not working.

He immediately fetched a new speaker from the warehouse. Tested it, and that one worked just fine. There was now a whole committee of salespeople gathered around the speakers, discussing something in Thai. While me and Nan where looking on. Then Nan announced it was okay, and we where escorted  trough the cashiers with the working speaker.

Back in the car, we simply headed back home, having nothing else to do in Korat. We made a quick stop at the market in Putthaisong and got some fresh fish and vegetables. And then we were home.

I must say I expected a lot more problems getting that speaker changed than we did. Sure we had to wait around some. But there was no discussion needed. They simply confirmed by testing that the product was not working right, and then changed it to a working one. So Tesco Lotus in Korat has earned a star in my book.

And the sound coming from the stereo surround thingy…well, it’s good enough for my damaged ears. So thats it then!

Hey Rune you were lucky. I took a iron back to Big C after about 6-8 weeks and it was a good and expensive iron.

they looked at me like I was mad and then told me to take it to the manufacture’s store at the other end of the city.

Well let me say there was a discussion by mostly me and Noot left me there by myself.

It was a funny story but I enventually got my own way after a lot of effort though.

Yeah, I think I read your iron story. Well, we were certainly in luck. I actually think we would have had more problems at home in Norway. Anyway, we lost a whole day. 4 hours of driving, 2-3 hours spent in Korat, mostly waiting around.
