Ready To Go

July 27, 2007 |

200706041749330.jpgWith nine days left to go, I now have the tickets to fly over there. My travel agent had a hard time getting me tickets for the return flight to La-la land, claiming it was high season. Yeah right. Then he tried to overcharge for the tickets he did get me. But managed to sort that out.

The important part, I have the tickets for myself, and for Nan to fly with me back to this pimple on the worlds arse. And she’ll spend the my final 3 weeks with me here.

I have also rented the usual pick-up truck. This time it’s a small Toyota 2WD with a manual gearbox. No problem, I am Norwegian, and prefer to drive a manual. I normally have rented a Toyota Vigo 4WD, but have never needed it. This is also a 2 seater, as nobody will sit inside the car when we go about anyway.

Over in the village nothing much is going on. Everyone is just going about with their daily lives. For Nan’s part that means doing a bit of cleaning, and keeping the boys fed. They have taken a shine to Spaghetti, and refuse to eat noodles anymore, and of course I am to blame for that.

Off course Nan is cooking it in her own unique way, but both the boys and everyone else she has served it too has liked it. So I guess pasta sales in the area will go up now.

Thats it!

I would love to rent a vehicle next time in BKK. Where have you been renting from and have you had good luck with them? What were the costs/mileage allowances?
    Thanks

Hi mike. Costs are depending on what type of car. But Normally you have free mileage.

Normaly there is a deposit of around 5000 baht, but the Bangkok ones seems to demand 20000 baht. They make that deductable from you credit card, and you get the payslip back when you return the car. So that 20000 never leave your account unless you have any damages.

For that little pick up truck I am renting now I pay 1200 baht pr. day, and that includes some sort of insurrance too (I would not trust it). If I had rented it for more than 15 days, it would have been 1000 baht a day.

Last time I had a Toyota Vigo 3.0 4WD double cab. A full tank of diesel was about 1200 baht.

Anyway, this time I am renting from http://www.thairentacar.com They seem to be okay, and they even called me overseas to clarify something with the pick up time. Else you can rent from both Hertz and Avis at the airport.

I rent a Honda Jazz when I go there. Dont recall the cost but its cheap, good on gas, and the insurance is good. I had a rock hit and break the windshield on the last one and it was No problem. 1000 baht deductable, I paid cash and wasent charged a dime on my credit card.
If memory serves me right it was around $33 usd per day.
