Big Rain

July 7, 2007 |

dsc01064.JPGNan finally got her big rain. She has been worried ever since she planted rice. And she had to re-plant some of her paddy fields, as the rain did not come.

While I was there, it was raining east, west and south of the village. But Nan’s fields did not receive a drop. To have water pumped is quite expensive too, and if she have to do it over a long period, her profits will soon be gone. 70 baht for one hour of pumping. It does not sound much, but after all that work with the rice, she will only be paid 7 baht a kilo.

At the hut she expect to finish laying stucco cement today. Yesterday she had to Yak-Yak a little bit as one of the builders was  less than up to the task. He had been out drinking with his mates all night, and was not in the best of shape when he reported for work. Nan gave him a right scolding and he was informed that he can drink when house is finished. No slacking off on her time!

She wants to let the stucco dry a little bit before starting laying tiles on the floors. So next project is stucco on the outer walls. But with the big rain, I doubt she will be able to do that.

I feel quite guilty about not being there to help. But she claims she is having fun. So that helps a bit.

Anyway, last night she slept good. She always does when “have big rain”

Will she yak-yak if guests don’t finish all the food they are served ?

No problem there. But you won’t get your dessert! ;-)
