The End is Nigh
July 6, 2007 |
At last I am starting to see the end of my tour here in La-La land. I just booked the tickets for my final holiday in Thailand, from the 5th of August. It will be two weeks with Nan in the hut, then she joins me for my last month here. And on the 13th of September we put ourselves on the plane and go home.
Nan is making herself busy in the hut. She says they have good Sanuk, working with the music blasting at full volume. They got 5 walls finished, and if I understood her right, she has started painting doors and window shutters. The phone line was atrocious yesterday.
Anyway, when I called her to inform her we have the tickets for La-La land she was virtually dancing at the other end. She has this little victory dance she performs when she is happy about something. So it gave me quite a chuckle to hear her reaction.
So now I guess I have to go out and shop for stuff she needs to make her sum tam. I got a rice cooker, and they have Thai rice here. Any other essentials I should get apart from a big mortar to pound chili and papaya to smithereens?

Lemme see. Nan will insist to feed you every two hours so starvation is impossible. Boredom?
With her around, I think thats is more or less impossible.
Hope you don’t mind karaoke music at 6 in the morning though
Rune, Geoff posted “The Sacred Sum Tam” somewhere, it had everything you need to make it. I watched it being made and found his recipe to be perfect.
PS: dont forget that hachet,or meat cleaver,LOL.
Don’t forget the rotten fish in fish or crab sauce left for a month at room temperature to spoil and ferment. She will love you for this present…

Oh, expect she’ll bring a big old jar of that stuff, Jason.
Has for Hatchet, I have a traditional Sami knife. It’s the arctic answer to the hatchet/ machete/ panga knife. Should serve her well
