Age Difference

July 1, 2007 |

That is something that wont be a factor in the relationship between me and Nan. But if you look at the typical stereotype of Farang/ Thai relationships, according to westerners a farang and Thai couple consist of a young and attractive Thai girl and an elderly fat farang.

Well, at age 36, soon turning 37 I am perhaps considered a young whipper snapper, compared to some farangs I have seen shuffling along the shelves at Big C. But I was not born yesterday. Nan at age 33 or is it 34? (she is not sure actually, but her passport states that she was born in 1973), is no spring chicken either. Well, I do possess a certain pum puy’ness. Nan is of course teasing me about it constantly. Me I am under the grand illusion that it makes me more cuddly and attractive as the “hansum” man that I am.

So with a 3-4 year age difference, at least in that regard we are a fairly normal couple. Most other farangs I am in contact with seem to have the same age difference. So is this a myth about Thai and farang couples that we just have to live with? Or is it a blatant and untrue lie.

Lets put it to the test. Answer the poll on the top left hand column and find out?

Hi Rune this isn’t just for the farang guys. Many elderly well off Thai guys have a young girlfriend or what they also call “small wife”.

The young girls don’t mind as they are getting well looked after something they don’t receive from many young Thai men.

I know one thai man he is mid fifties and he openly talks about his younger girl and the other men joke about it at golf. I think she is early 20’s.

When you are here everyday you will notice it a lot more it stands out more for Farangs as a big overweight white guy and a tiny olive skinned Thai girl are easy to spot while the Thai couples you think are daughter and father.

Aware of all of the above, Jason.
The post and the poll is more for fun than anything else.

When it comes to who is with who in Thai/ farang, or Thai / Thai relationships for that matter, I have a fairly well grounded “mind my own business” approach really.:-)

Well, when last year (I was 23) I dated a lady who was 32, so perhaps it can work both ways.

hey Matt did she teach a young whipper snipper any new tricks?

Today I seen at Tesco a large foreigner of around mid fifties with a family in tow of about 6 Thai people but I couldn’t tell who he was actually with. One lady looked mid 40’s another 2 girls were early to mid 20’s and one grandmother and a couple of children.

I enjoy people watching at my local suoermarkets. My life is so boring I know.

I am one of the guilty parties with a considerable age difference. However it’s not really noticed in the relationship. I just don’t seem to get along well with Thai women my age. But age, race, religion, culture, language and other things are secondary to hearts that connect and happiness.

Theres 10 years between me and the long-haired General, 38-28, trouble is she passes for 16, she was shopping here in Bahrain with our 2 boys and a Thai friend (35ish) with her 2 children and someone approached the friend and asked if all 5 children (4 + my wife) were hers! She was incredulous and Mrs T pee’d her pants!

….and, in the 4 years we have been together I have aged about 8 years and she looks younger now than when I met her coz there are no fields for her to tend!…so our age gap is increasing, go figure….haha!
