Hut Update
June 30, 2007 |
Well, this morning work started on the hut. They appear to be working from the top down. Starting with putting in an inner ceiling. That should help keep the heat down inside a little bit.
She claims to have spent only 23 000 baht so far in materials. But she is in doubt if she have bought enough floor tiles. Her total budget is 50 000 baht. Well, at least until I come to look-look and approve of spending more on whatever is self evident needs to be done.
Talking with Nan on the phone is always fun.
“Seven in morning I go open hut for man who come and look- see hut, teerak”
“So they are starting today?”
“Yes, they start put roof today”
“Roof?, you mean the ceiling?
“Yes ceiling. I have to yak-yak man to much (giggles)”
“You yak-yak, that I would love to see one day!”
Apparently the poor dude she has press- ganged into doing the job took his time figuring out how to do the job. So when she continued telling the tale I almost felt sorry for him.
“I say him: Why you don’t know? You do many times? (accusing tone)”
This was about how to go about doing the ceiling. I can just picture the scene. A somewhat bewildered builder having to deal with this small woman, fists planted at the hips, asking difficult questions, and demanding they stop hanging about and start working. Well, she is paying them by the day. And Nan want’s her moneys worth!
Her last comment about the whole thing was another one worth noting:
“I say him: If you not make look good, I will have my husband talk with you when he come back!”
Oh boy am I married…lol

Latest update. Nan figures they will be finished with the ceiling tomorrow. And then they wil start dping stucco cement on the walls.
I wonder what kind of whip she is using. A good old fashioned bull whip, or perhaps the nine tailed cat. I put my bet on the last one.
I really feel for these builders. May the gods have mercy on their souls.
Oh and hse has promised to take plenty of before and after pictures, so we can pester you with look at our home pictures once it’s finished!
We consider building a house in Thailand too. However the cheapest rate I’ve been told so far was THB 300k - 600k. Does your 50k include building the whole house with bathroom and kitchen?
Hi Bruno,
We are not building a house from scratch, but rather finishing a house she already have. It was started by her prevoious husband, but he died before it could be completed six years ago.
So walls, roof windows, water and electricity is already there. We are just adding an inner ceiling, stucco cement on the walls and tiling for the floors.
A great read Will, thats it for me for this weekend, only July, August & September to go! Good luck you guys and will catch up again soon.
