Returning to La-La Land
June 29, 2007 |
The last few days in the village was spent fishing by the river, being lazy and generally enjoying each others company. Nan’s niece were returning to work in Chonburi, so we loaded my stuff, and the young lady into the car, and headed south-west again.
This was Friday, and I was flying out on Sunday night. The trip down where uneventful. We made a few pit stops for food. We were stopped twice by the police, but they just waved me on. Well, I was told at one place that the speed limit was 100 Km/h in Thailand, other than that he just checked my drivers license and sent me off with a smile.
We dropped off the niece at her whole in the wall, and found ourselves a hotel. Then out to get something to eat. And that was it until I had to go to the airport.Simply enjoying each others company, and a lot of talking about the hut.
I hated the drive to the airport. I had made a mistake in the booking, and had to give the car back by 3pm, or pay for an extra day. My flight was at 3 am in the morning. So we were simply going to drop the car off, then take a taxi to a hotel. Nan could sleep there and then take the bus up to Isaan the next day.
At the airport, we had no problem dropping the car off. I got my deposit back. And spotted the hotel on the other side of the parking house. Why not just head there I was thinking.
So we did, and got a room. I forgot to ask what it would cost. Well it was 5500 baht. I shrugged and signed. Turned around to find Nan, mouth open and still in shock.
Well, nothing to be done about it. Anyway, we stayed in the room until I had to go and check in at the airport. So thats the last I saw of her. A small Thai girl, bravely waving goodbye as I disappeared flight side at the air port. It will be a few weeks until I see my wife again…until then, we are back to talking on the phone. Life is to cruel!

Awsome dude, Im almost in tears. I ALWAYS HATE the trip back to work. I think Im going to hate it even more this next time.
Was the Hotel the NOVATEL?
Jason, I’m sure we can find some time to go up to your place once we get more settled in. So keep those beers cool!
Yeah, this one I guess will be one to remember. But I will be back on the 5th of August for another 2 weeks. Then Nan will return with me here to La-La land if all goes well.
She does not need a visa for stay under 30 days, and my end of tour is on the 12th of september.
The Hotel was indeed the Novotel. Quite a posh place. But I doubt I will repeat that one, as I got quite an earfull when we got into the room!
lol
i have to go back to USA july 18th. sucks. but i have to get working to finish the house building. 5500 baht for a hotel! too close to the airport!
The hotel was AT the airport. A moment of laziness there…
My parents stayed at a new hotel near the airport in April. It’s new but the rooms are nothing flash and they offer a free pick up and drop off. There is air conditioning, cable TV and food stalls all near by. It’s only a 5 minute drive away. The price was under a thousand baht for the night as well.
I actually booked it online for them and will ahve to find the name and number for it.
As my dad said it was all they needed for 14 hours until they caught their early morning flight.
Yes, they can give an earful about over spending but when it comes to loyions and the special whitening powders that’s different. Ha ha.
