Family Coming

June 29, 2007 |

So I chatted a bit with my uncle , who is more like my big brother, as he is only 3 years older than me. And the dude is looking into bringing his family to Thailand somewhere between October and the end of December to visit me and Nan in the village.
Yikes, the family is coming!

Needless to say this news got Nan very excited. And I am not sure if she quite understand the word “maybe”. Anyway, he has been to Thailand before, as one of those dreaded back-packers. This was when he traveled around the world some 10-15 years ago. My aunt and cousins are also well traveled.

The kids are aged 10 and 15, and I have a sneaking feeling that the 15 year old will have to beat off the teenage girls in the village with a stick!

I am not sure what they will make of the bucket shower and squatting toilet. Not to mention no air-con, chickens going insane at 5 in the morning, and the neighbours karaoke machine at 6. But then night temperatures should be tolerable, and they are used to camping out.

There is no nearby hotel to install them in. But hey, they should be able to handle a few days in the village. The rest of the time they will probably travel around, with some time in a posh resort at some tourist trap.

Nan of course immediately started to worry about the food. What does farangs from Norway eat? Well, I am a farang and I have not died yet from what she cooks up. But we will stock up with some farang friendly food too I guess.

Anyway I can’t wait to serve them some freshly fried up locusts to go with the Som Tam and Sang Som. This will be fun!
