The Night Before
June 22, 2007 |
Around seven in the evening the pig arrived. It was big enough that 4 people had to carry it in its little cage from the truck. It was a full sized example of of a pig. No little piglet here. This was the real deal.
As Nan’s brothers walked by with what they needed for the job at hand I noticed at least they had the right tools, and proper knives. There was also a tray filled with offerings, since they where going to kill the pig.
However I was not allowed to watch this. Me and Nan had a meal, and where then ushered to bed. We lay there and listened to the sounds of music, happy chatting and the sound of chopping, cooking and merrymaking outside. We talked a bit about the next day, and Nan tried as best she could to explain proceedings to me, but it left me no wiser.
We tried to get some sleep, but it was hard coming for both of us. So round midnight we got up, and peeked trough the door. Outside the barbecue was running full tilt. And stuff was boiled in at lest 4 big kettles, and people where still chopping vegetables, and pieces of pig.
Then Nan’s uncle discovered us, and we where chased inside to sleep. Well, Nan managed to hand over a bucket full of beer, Sang SomSom and Soda for the crew first.
We finally fell asleep…

Way to go, Nan and Rune !!! All the best from Ae and I. I’m rotating out away from work here in Russia on the 30th and will be in Bangkok that night. Staying for 2 weeks and then back to the states. Will spend about 5 days in Pattaya during my holiday. Ae is leaving the states on the 24th and will be with her family until I arrive. We have got to catch up with each other one day.
