Getting Ready for the Big Day
June 21, 2007 |
We were getting Married in two days. What went trough my mind was basically nothing at all. But I managed to pull myself together. We had things to do.
First on the program was to drop off Mae at the village. Then we sped towards Phutthaisong. We needed a dress for Nan and something for me to wear as well. In my suitcase where just T-shirts, shorts and jeans. Even a bum like me realizes that something a bit more fancy is required for a wedding.
We came to a screeching halt in front of the local beauty salon. Nan jumped out of the car and went inside, and I followed. Inside she announced to everyone pressent that she was getting married in two days, and needed help.
There was total silence in their for about two seconds. Before at least 5 ladies surrounded her, and escorted her out of the salon and trough another door, chattering away. I was left alone with the husband of the lady running the place. He motioned for me to follow him, and I was soon trying suit jackets and trousers.
After a while Nan was back, looking happy, and so was I having found a Thai style suit kind of thing. It was agreed that since the wedding was at 9 in the morning, I would bring her here by 5 in the morning to do her make-up and the final touches on her dress.
We were out of there. Next on the agenda was rings. On to the local gold shop, where we picked out a pair of rings. Simple plain gold bands. Nothing fancy.
While driving back to the village we discussed food and music. The music was easy enough. Her brother owns one of those giant music machines, and often does the sound system for village parties. Okay, so on to her brothers village, to inform him.
He did not know we were getting married yet. So was a bit surprised. But out came the beer, and we had a nice little chat, with help of Nan, with some additional help from her cute as a button niece who also speak a bit of English.
With dress and rings sorted, we could now concentrate on the food. Nan suggested we kill on of her cows. But I talked her into buying a pig and do a barbecue. So on to the nearest pig farm to sort that out. The animal would be delivered the next day.
Then we needed veggies, beer, Lao kaow, Sang Som…but that could wait until next morning. So we sped home, were her mother had half the ladies in the village organized. They where already making the decorations. So beer for everyone. Our wedding party had already started!
