Getting There Part 2

Next morning we got into the car, and this time the GPS was cooperating and we soon found our way towards Korat. The plan was to spend a couple of days there, and explore the area a bit. We sped along with a stop for breakfast at a roadside eating place.

Next stop was a small waterfall, I have forgotten were it was. A peaceful place, and although full of swimming kids, it had a quietness around it. We just sat there and enjoyed the scenery and the antics of the kids splashing about in the water.

We finally arrived in Korat, and got ourselves a room. A quick shower later we where out in the street looking for more food. But ended up at the mall, where we looked at beds for Nans’ “hut”. But she thought the prices were a bit steep, so we just looked.

Then we had something to eat, and went back to the hotel for some sleep. We were only going to snooze for an hour or two, but did not wake up until the next day. After a quick breakfast, we did not quite know what to do. So when I suggested we just skip Korat, and head for the village, I was rewarded by Nan who performed a small victory dance in front of me, all smiles. Yup, the lady wanted to go home!

But first some quick shopping at Tesco. Soda, beer, a bottle of Sang Som for uncle Tom, some toys for the kids and some food stuff later we were on our way.

Getting up to Putthaisong is a quick 2-3 hour drive, so we arrived there, and raided the market for food, and Nan got a chance to parade her farang in front of all her market lady friends.
We arrived in the village where I was first greeted by “Luk dik”, Nan’s mongrel of a dog. Then “mom” was in front of me among some neighbours. And after some Wais and Sawasdees, I soon found myself with a beer in hand, chatting a very happy uncle Tom. I think some of the happiness lay in the bottle of Sang Som and box of Lucky Strikes I had gotten for him.

We spent the afternoon just enjoying being back in the village.
