Driving to Isaan
May 20, 2007 |
Plans are firming up for the next trip. Yes I know. Thailand and plans don’t mix. So me and Nan has come up with a brilliant plan that should for the most part eliminate this problem. The solution is highly influenced by her, and I will let her take full credit for it. It is a typical Isaan Thai plan. It’s simplicity is the genius of it. The plan that we have come up with is to have no plan at all!
We’re going to take the days as they come, go where we please, stop as long as we want to, and then move on to the next place. Or just stay in one place if we like it to much.
So for the first time I will go to Thailand, and not book anything in advance. Hotels that is. We do need transportation, and since I don’t fancy trains or buses, we hire a car. It will be waiting for us at the airport. We get in, I plug in the iPOD and the GPS, Nan falls asleep and off we go.
I have not got the faintest idea where we will end up the first day. But Nan agreed that driving straight up to the village was “no good”. So we will head out of the Bangkok area in the general direction of Korat first though. But the idea is to drive for an hour or two, then find a hotel for the night. It will be late afternoon and well…I miss her to much, so this is important. All we need is a place to sleep and eat, that is clean, has a hot shower and a comfortable bed. Any suggestions will be very welcome
On day two we head for Korat. We may or may not spend the night there. This is where our plan starts to get delightfully fuzzy. We are going to spend a few days in her village. Have a look at her house, and simply relax.
Then it’s on to Khon Kaen to get her a pass port. We will probably bring the kids on this excursion and spend the weekend up there. So for this part, we will need a children friendly hotel with a swimming pool, cable TV, and plenty of activities to wear them out. They are 7 and 10 years old and never ever give them anything containing sugar!
After that, it’s back to the village, hand the kids over to their grandma, and off to other destinations. And here it’s where the plan fizzles out completely. The only point is to go back to Khon kaen to pick up her passport that I am informed will take about a week.
So in between two visits to Khon Kaen, and a couple of stops at the village…we really have nothing planned. What a Holiday this is going to be ![]()

Her name is Lapi and she is from somewhere around Sakon Nakhon. She is a BLAST!!! 29,no kids, and fun to be around.
I leave in two daze :o(
It’s the only viable plan for that country
And congrats on finding someone new to keep you interested in LOS. We expect a full report on Lapi once you are back in hell….uh… are outside the kingdom again.
For now, enjoy your last two daze!
Dago has a new lady already and he is from hell? Wow….wonders never cease.
Oh, O forgot, Dago is not from Hell of course. To be from hell, you have to be from Norway. It’s not a bad place to be from, since a fromer miss Universe came from there.
