Nan the Hut
May 11, 2007 |
Nan is going about her life in her Isaan village as usual. She has also learned a new English word. The word she has learned is “hut”. It turns out that her house. The house we plan to live in while we figure each other out is actually a hut, according to Nan that is.
I tried to make her tell me how large this hut of hers actually is, but she chickened out on the words “long” and “wide”, so she could not actually give me the square meters of the place. It all ended in “mai bpen rai”.
I will have my first look at the hut in June. Meanwhile I wonder what she actually mean by hut. Her mums house is definitely a house as defined by Nan. It’s a typical concrete ground floor and wood second floor/ attic Isaan house. I think they all use the same blue prints.
But this is a hut. Well, my home is my castle. And home…well that is where Nan is. And she is busy right now, cleaning the hut up for my arrival in June. Will that woman ever sit still for a moment?
