Sick to Much

May 3, 2007 |

chest-xray.jpgI have not been feeling quite well lately. This Monday, after an uncomfortable weekend where my chest was sort of aching a little bit, it all topped itself and stubborn me threw in the towel and went and saw a doctor.

They probed, they tested, they drew blood, they made me breath into tubes, they x-raid, and made me sit in waiting rooms for hours, and then told me come back tomorrow, and now, four days later they finally gave me some drugs, but did not tell me what they where for.

I explained about Thai sonkran and that I had been busy for a week throwing, and squirting water at people. And that people had been doing the same to me and that I had been more or less wet from not so clean water for that entire week.

Well, my chest and heart seems fine the doctor said. Lung functions is normal, and my blood does not seem to contain anything that should not be there. My blood pressure was a tad high, but nothing to worry about. The doctor figured it was just some muscle stiffness in the chest.

I have also had a loose stomachs ever since I returned, but that may just be because of the general hygiene in this country in South Asia. So he gave me some pills to take for each. I am debating with myself if I should take them. The side effects seem pretty dire. And I don’t like taking medicines “just in case”, and since yesterday I have been feeling better.

I don’t dare telling this to Nan. You know what they are like. I will be put trough a 3rd degree interrogation, and she will “worry to much”.

Having her here to nurse me trough my ailments would have been nice though. But I suspect that the doctors order to take it easy for a few days would not have been followed.

Of course, when I get back there she will read this, and probably kill me for not telling her I have been sick. But I will cross that bridge when I get to it. ;-)

Not to generalize, but Ae will not take a full dose of any kind of medicine. She just does not understand the consequences of not following doctors orders, she stops taking when she feels better, usually the next day. I now only take her to the doctor when she is deathly ill. Just kidding, but it is difficult for her to follow instructions when in Thailand she can buy any medication she wants at the pharmacy. I have also noticed that Ae is not as strong as she was in Thailand. There’s something to a body getting used to living in not so sanitary conditions, then you take it away…..

Geoff is right, we don’t want to lose you or your stories…..

It’s a good idea to take those meds, Will. When I got down with some sickness there, I too was uneasy about the pills the doc gave me in four plastic bags - but I took them anyway, and they turned out to be just what I needed!

    Hope you gonna be fine.

Anyway, I feel better allready, so no worries… :-)
