A Busy Bee
April 28, 2007 |
That is what she is. During my stay in the village Nan was high and low from morning to evening. Always with something to do. I felt quite guilty at times sitting in the shade under the mango tree, drinking something handed over by Nan and generally being lazy. My single duties consisted of driving her to the market for food shopping, and eating what was put in front of me.
I Usually managed to drag myself out of bed when the noise of chickens, the neighbours Karaoke machine, playing kids and insane chickens became to much around 7am. By then Nan had been up for an hour cooking breakfast for everyone.
I usually rose, and was ushered into the “shower” immediately. I After the refreshing bucket shower it was breakfast time. Usually something with rice. After that I brushed my teeth again, while Nan cleaned the house. After that she cleaned all the families clothes and had them hanging up to dry, before we went to the market to pick up what was needed there for the next meal, which Nan also cooked. She then cleaned something, like her motorcycle or some other stuff, and when she did nothing at all, and sat down to chat with me she was knitting or preparing some food.
After the evening meal, she was ironing and folding clothes while watching her favourite soap on TV, and making sure I was comfortable. That was something she was doing the whole time. Always finding time to be my girl friend, and sneaking in a touch, a hug , a hug or a kiss or other signs of affection while there was nobody watching.
And me, I just loved it, and I was kicking myself for having pre-paid the hotel we where staying at in Pattaya, or I would have canceled the room and stayed up there for the rest of the trip. We could have skipped off to some town in Isaan somewhere if we wanted more privacy and alone time together and explored a little. But that will have to wait until June.
Anyway, lazy me will have my hands full keeping up with her when we finally stay together more permanently if we make it that far. It is a long time until September. But with Nan I never had the doubts and fears I experienced from day one with Lek. And both my head and my heart tells me the same thing on this one. If she will have me, I will keep her.
Besides she is far to funny to be around. Always joking about. And making sure everyone has “sanuk”. The picture shows Nan demolishing a coconut for her helpless farang. I love that stuff and they grow in abundance around her house.
Have a nice weekend folks.

My wife stays busy like that, too. Makes me tired to see her like that all of the time. I’m sure you have noticed how good Thai women are with knives, machetes and meat cleavers. Make sure you take good care of her, she’s a keeper. Let’s see some more pics.
Good with knives, certainly. More than once she had my heart skipping a beat, while she chopped at something with insanely sharp objects. I was just waiting for fingers to fly and blood to spurt.
And her cooking is a delight. Anyone bad talking Isaan cooking have obviously never met Nan. Her grilled chicken is melting in the mouth, and she makes something as bland as rice taste like it was made in heaven…
Keep her, YES SIR!
Ae is a great cook, her Thai dishes are supreme. Being from Louisiana, I especially like her fried rice, much like jambalaya. Right after were married, I noticed how she liked to hold vegetables in her hand while chopping. I bought a grater for her to make spicy pappaya salad, still unused. She says it tastes better when she makes it by chopping the pappaya in her hand with a meat cleaver, then using it to slice off the chopped portion. Other than a few minor cuts, her fingers are all still there….
I’m a good boy with no reason not to be, so there is no chance of part of me meeting the neighborhood duck….
I hope sometime we can meet up with you guys in Thailand!!
Meeting up would be great!
So don’t be be shy to make contact. I am not half as crazy as I appear to be, and I promise you i don’t bite!
Doug, I am going to do some recon in June, I will let everyone know if he is indeed as crazy as he seems to be…..
contrary to his claims, I suspect he actually is….
Nah, I am just Norwegian, it’s what growing up in a place where summer last year was on a Tuesday does to us. That and having to drink Aquavit every x-mas.
I can assure you that for a Norwegian, I am perfectly normal *evil grin*
Geoff, I will expect a full report. He can’t be too crazy. I just went from the hottest place on Earth to work (Chad) to the coldest (Far East Russia), at least it seems that way to me. Anyways, I tell Ae she’s crazy for marrying me. She’s the keeper, not me.
Maybe we can all meet up in Thailand one day…..
Well, seems like I am losing this one as when I finally broke down and called Nan, she totally agreed with Geoff that I am a complete fruitcake
So you where in Chad, Doug? I was working on the other side of the border in Sudan for a year in 2004-06. I went back to Northern Norway from there. So we must be equially Ting Tong then

I was in Chad from July 2003 to March 2004, working 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off. Went back to work in the USA for a little more than a year. Started working the Sakhalin 1 project in June 2005 and still here, probably until end of 2008. Same rotation 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off.
We have a great life, but for some reason, I keep hearing the words, ba ba bo bo……….
Oh yes, heard those words a few times. Like fex when I hired a motorbike without consulting her to go and see the crocodile park outside Pattaya in the middle of Songkran. That story coming up.
